Yanni Hufnagel: A Scion of Excellent Basketball Talent Recruitment and Coaching

Yanni Hufnagel’s appointment as an assistant basketball coach in 2016 at Nevada Wolf Pack marked an important milestone in his checkered coaching career. In his new role, he works alongside coach Eric Musselman. Born in Scarsdale, New York, Yanni Hufnagel showed a strong passion in basketball coaching from an early age by reading books on the subject and simulating the moves using toys. He went in broadcasting and game calling at the local television station before joining Cornell University for his bachelor’s degree studies. He became a basketball manager while at the university before joining New Jersey Nets as an assistant coach. Upon recommendation by a colleague, Yanni Hufnagel was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma after graduation. He also had stints at Harvard University, Vanderbilt University and University of California, Berkeley before his move to Nevada Wolf Pack of the University of Nevada at Reno.

Professional Profile, Skills and Academic Background

Despite his relatively young age, Yanni Hufnagel had developed an enviable reputation as one of the leading coaches especially at the college and university level basketball. Remarkable, some of these roles have seen him work with some of the best basketball teams from some of the best learning institutions in the country. Over the years, he has proven to be an excellent talent recruiter, coach and manager as seen with the several players he recruited and managed who later rose to become rising stars of the game including Damian Jones who was drafted by Golden State Warriors during the 2016 NBA drafting. He also developed Blake Griffin who was drafted in 2009 by Los Angeles Clippers and won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2011. Yanni Hufnagel currently serves a managing partner at IXC.VC. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations in 2006. He also holds a Master of Education degree from University of Oklahoma.
